An atheist Professor of philosophy speaks to his class on the problem Science has with God, The Almighty.

He asks one of his new students to stand and
Prof: So you believe in God?

Student: Absolutely, sir.

Prof: Is God good?

Student: Sure.

Prof: Is God all-powerful?

Student: Yes.

Prof: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to God to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But God didn't. How is this God good then? Hmm? (Student is silent.)

Prof: You can't answer, can you? Let's start again, young fellow. Is God good?

Student: Yes.

Prof: Is Satan good?

Student: No.

Prof: Where does Satan come from?

Student: From...God.. .

Prof: That's right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?

Student: Yes.

Prof: Evil is everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything. Correct?

Student: Yes.

Prof: So who created evil?
(Student does not answer.)

Prof: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don't they?

Student: Yes, sir.

Prof: So, who created them?
(Student has no answer.)

Prof: Science says you have 5 senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son...Have you ever seen God?

Student: No, sir.

Prof: Tell us if you have ever heard your God?

Student: No, sir.

Prof: Have you ever felt your God, tasted your God, smelt your God? Have you ever had any sensory perception of God for that matter?

Student: No, sir. I'm afraid I haven't.

Prof: Yet you still believe in Him?

Student: Yes.

Prof: According to empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your GOD doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?

Student: Nothing. I only have my faith.

Prof: Yes. Faith. And that is the problem science has.

Student: Professor, is there such a thing as heat?

Prof: Yes.

Student: And is there such a thing as cold?

Prof: Yes.

Student: No sir. There isn't.

(The lecture theatre becomes very quiet with this turn of events.)

Student: Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don't have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, But we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.
(There is pin-drop silence in the lecture theatre.)

Student: What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?

Prof: Yes. What is night if there isn't darkness?

Student: You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light....But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and its called darkness, isn't it? In reality, darkness isn't.

If it were you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?
Prof: So what is the point you are making, young man?

Student: Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.

Prof: Flawed? Can you explain how?

Student: Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one.

To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor. Do you teach your Students that they evolved from a monkey?

Prof: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.

Student: Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?
(The Professor shakes his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument is going.)

Student: Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavour, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher?
(The class is in uproar.)

Student: Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor's brain?
(The class breaks out into laughter.)

Student: Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor's brain, felt it, touched or smelt it? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain, sir.

With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?
(The room is silent. The Professor stares at the student, his face unfathomable. )

Prof: I guess you'll have to take them on faith, son.

Student: That is it sir... The link between man & god is FAITH.

That is all that keeps things moving & alive...

On 28th morning after whole night jaagran and attending the Kakad Aarti at Dwarkamai, I reached Samadhi Mandir to have the Darshan of our beloved SAI . After Kakad aarti and Mangal Snan of SAI the Sansthan perform a mini Aarti of SAI .

As it was Poornima day, there was a heavy crowd, but I managed to get entry into the Samadhi Mandir and attended the mini Aarti. I came out from the Samadhi Mandir around 5.40 a.m. and reached Gurusthan and started my 108 parikrama, with chanting SAI ’s name. But in 5-6 parikrama only I started feeling weak, as I was doing jaagran for the last 2 days and it could be the result of my ill health.

As I have already started my parikrama, I wanted to complete it with full devotion, without thinking about my ill-health. But this time it looked as if SAI wanted to test my devotion. Even after another 5-6 parikrama, the same situation was there and I was feeling like I would collapse any time.

Also it was not even easy to do the parikrama due to heavy rush in and around the Gurusthan. The crowd was there NOT to do the parikrama - but in search of neem patti.

Then finally, I stopped for a while in front of SAI ’s small Mandir at the Gurusthan, and prayed “Baba, I want to complete my parikrama, but due to ill health and weakness, I am unable to complete the same, please be with me, hold me, give me strength, mere saath saath mera haath thaamkar, mujhe yeh parikrama complete karne me please Baba mujhe madad karo”. And I continued my parikrama.

After few steps, (not rounds) one boy, aged 18-20 in kurta – pyjama in divine yellow, came to me with a very loving smile asked: “what is this in your hand”,

I said: “I am doing my parikrama and yeh gomukhi hai jisme mala hai, meri parikrama counting ke liye”, I answered without stopping and continuing my parikrama.

“Shall I join you in the parikrama”, he asked,

I said, “why not”. But I have already finished my few rounds you have to start afresh. Will you be able to count your rounds?

Immediately he said “ I have my Rudrakhsa mala, I will start with this.”
I said “OK – chalo shuru karein”

My GOD, he was so cute, very talkative.

Initially, I was little disturbed and got irritated, as I was unable to do my chanting along with my parikrama because of this boy, but later I enjoyed chatting with this boy and doing the parikrama.

While doing parikrama, he started telling me about his experiences with SAI, and asked me what all the experiences I had with SAI so far.

From when did you start believing SAI? Why?

Kabhi tumne, SAI se apne liye kuch manga hai kya?

I said: I don’t ask anything nowadays, because I was told not to, as Baba knows, what we deserve and when to give us etc.

He asked, whether you get angry with SAI in your bad times, for not helping you.

I said “No”. He said: I won’t believe you, because it’s human nature to blame GOD for not helping them.

I said no-I never get angry especially on SAI because I love him.

He again said: If somebody tells anything bad about SAI what do you do.

Like this I continued my parikrama with plenty of questions from this boy with why, what, who, when, where, how etc etc.

Suddenly, I realized that I had reached the last bead of my mala and another thing I had not realize while doing the parikrama, I never felt any weakness which I was feeling earlier, instead I was feeling so energetic and was doing the parikrama with full of energy.

When I finished my last round, I stopped in front of the small SAI Mandir, that boy also stopped and said, “finished” I said “ yes – but you have to still do some more rounds”.

He said “Don’t worry about me – you have completed yours, na, take care, glad to meet you, and see you, now let me continue my parikrama”.

After paying my pranam at the Mandir, while going towards the gate to reach my room, I was just wondering about the miracle of the energy in me while doing the parikrama, and suddenly I realized, who is this boy who helped me to do the parikrama, when I was feeling very weak. Very quickly I reached the Gurushtan in search of that boy. There was no sign of any such boy in the crowd around Gurusthan. Oh my God, I didn’t even ask this boy’s name. I sat there for a while and didn’t want to leave that place and was very angry on myself for my stupidity. I was speechless.

Till this moment only one question is there in my mind – “who helped me to complete my parikrama, our beloved Baba???

My experiences with my Beloved BABA at Shridi (1)

I reached Shirdi on Thursday 25th Feb. 2010 morning. After freshening up, had Darshan of SAI at Chavdi, visited Haji Abdul Babas Masjid, Datt Mandir etc.

Around 11.30 I reached Parayan Hall where I used to do parayan of SSC. As it was already 11.30 there was no chance to attend the Madhyanha Aarti, so decided to start the parayan at the Hall, where I met Anand, a SAI devotee from Surat, whom I met during my last visit in January in Dwarkamai. He has mannat to stay at Shridi for 52 days and to read Sai Satchartira at the Parayan Hall. We had very good spiritual chat during my jaagran last month in Dwarkamai.

Now, about my experience with my Beloved BABA on Thursday. I started reading “Sai Prerna”, when I reached the sentence “Tu Mere Prasad Grahan karke to Dekh”, all of sudden I remembered that after Madhyanha Aarti, the sansthan used to distribute to the devotees, “sooji ka halwa” offered to our beloved SAI, near the “Udi” distribution counter and I thought I will go and first have the prasad of “Sooji ka halwa” and then continue the parayan. But was little hesitant, as I have to leave all my stuff, purse, everything in the parayan hall, though, it is not unsafe still I was little hesitant. But I desperately wanted to have the Prasad. So, I looked at Baba’s big portrait at the Parayan Hall, and said, “Baba, mujhe sooji ka halwa chahiye”, and continued to look at Baba’s eyes straight. After few moments I continued my parayan. But to my surprise, what I see was, Anand is standing in front of me with Prasad in his hands in a leaf. He said, “Didi, tumhare liye”. I was just speechless. My Great affectionate Baba has fulfilled his daughter’s wish in seconds!!!!

Around 11.30 p.m., I met in Dwarkamai, Anand and Sunil, (Shirdi based a true devotee of SAI, who used to clean Dwarkamai every night after 11.00 p.m.). and we were exchanging our experiences with our beloved SAI, I described them about my experience of “Sooji ka Halwa - Prasad” during Madhyanha aarti.

After hearing the whole narrative, Anand said, “Didi mei to aapko Parayan Hall me milne ke baad, aaram karne ke liye apne room par hi jaa raha tha. Prasad roj leta hoon, socha aaj chalega. Lekin do kadam chalne ke baad, mujhe laga, Didi to Parayan Hall me baithi hai, unhe to Prasad nahi milega, kyon na mei, unhe Prasad de aavoon, aur mei tumhare liye Prasad lekar aaya.”

Meaning, my Great affectionate Baba has fulfilled his daughter’s wish to have his “Sooji ka Halwa” Prasad, through Anand!!! Thank You Baba!
It was a day in FEB 2008, my birthday while i was on a short assignment work away from my hometown for 3 months. The MD of the concern where the assignment was carried out, a miser by nature does not even offer a tea to his clients.

As i was away from hometown, none of my family members were around nor my friends, people were wishing me over phone and email. I had planned to go to BABA temple in the evening after work.

That morning I came to office as usual and was offering POOJA at the office POOJA MANDHIR by lighting an AGARBATHI before BABA's potrait, when I heard someone calling me from behind, when i turned around to see the office boy standing behind me with a opened sweet box to have the distribution commenced from me, the reason "one of that MD's long term dream come true in a project" Everyone was surprised to receive from the MISER MD because he has never did that to staff.
But Only I KNOW that BABA was instrumental in offering the SWEET in the form of MD, for my birthday because he is my father.
Just then, hearing Thy announcement, emnating as a sourceless voice from the skies, that the eighth child of that lady would kill his wicked self, Kamsa got frightened and drew his sword to kill Devaki (and thus safeguard himself against any possible danger from her future offspring).

sloka 8
The wicked Kamsa, who held Devaki by the hair (with the resolve to kill), would not release her in spite of all the conciliatory words of Vasudeva. But when he was told that all the sons born of her would be surrendered to him, he was pleased and went home (without killing Devaki). When Thy first brother was born, he was accordingly handed over to Kamsa, but out of love, he would not kill the child. For, O Lord, even wicked people are once in a way found to be extremely kind.

At this juncture, the well-known Rishi, Narada, prompted by Thee, went to Kamsa, the king of the Bhojas, and said: 'O great king, Don't you know that you are all of the Asuric origin while the Yadus partake of the nature of the Devas. Invoked by the Devas, Hari, the master of mysterious powers, is going to be born for the destruction of you of Asuric origin.' Warned thus, Kamsa scattered the tribe of Yadus from their territory, and put the children of Vasudeva to death.

sloka 10
O Lord, When Devaki became pregnant for the seventh time, the fetus, which was the embodiment of none other than Adisesha, was removed from her womb to that of Rohini by Maya at Thy command. The, O all-pervading Being, Thou, who art none but Sat-chid-ananda, entered the womb of Devaki, while the Devas praised Thee with songs. O Krishna, Thou of such power and glory, mayest Thou deign to cure me of my illness and bestow on me supreme devotion.

Asleep or while awake
In silence and in conversations
In crowds and in solitude
Sai, you are the goal, the object, and the purpose

What you really are is what you are while not asleep or awake. The metaphysical aspect of Brahman is probably understood through such logic and analysis. Or through the simple way of remembering Sai's name before every thought or deed. This is precisely what Baba said to the simple folks of Shirdi who flocked him during the Golden days. Insisting on one's views and refuting the other will not help one, remember discussion as one function of ego. Baba said, "Let there be no insistence on establishing one's own view, no attempt to refute other's opinion, no discussions of pros and cons of any subject. Hearing my stories and teachings will create faith in devotees' hearts and they will easily get self-realization and Bliss".

Baba's fold is a fortune. It is considered as the result of the merits of several births. Once such a fortune is in sight, who would let it go but the imprudent? Simple saadhana is to remember him while awake and during every action. This will surely cross anyone through the perils of everyday life of action and consequence. Remembering Sai during every difficulty and every celebration will surely lead one to remembering Him everywhere and ever. Blessed is such life for them the bridge is not afar.

CONTRIBUTED ARTICLE: Closer relationship with Baba

Devotees of Shri Shirdi Sai often ask a question to me - "How to be in closer relationship with Baba?". I have seen them striving in their own way to be close to Shri Sai, even if they are not aware as to what it would mean to be close to Shri Sai. Basically, it is an emotional rapport they would like to develop. The various methods they adopt, according to their stages of consciousness, strength of will, inborn and acquired qualities and faith in Baba, immensely vary.

It is true that the relationship of each disciple with Baba i.e. God will be unique and there cannot be exact second relationship. However, in all such relationships it is seen that the existence of certain common denominators and qualities are a prerequisite. If the devotees understand these qualitative prerequisites which would entail them to be closely drawn by Baba, then the treading of the path would be simpler.

The first such quality as I feel is faith in Him. Mere intellectual faith acquired over a period of time by reading books, discussions etc., may develop certain amount of conviction in him, but this level of faith is not enough. Even though at the earlier stages it may be necessary. People are often seen saying, even publicly, that "I can sacrifice my life for Baba" or that "In this world I can depend on nobody except Him fully". However, if we closely observe their lifestyle, the way they interact with people, their reaction to adversities of others, their reaction to individuals and groups around them in the society, one would find that their proclaimed convictions are mere exercise in substance less assertiveness.

If the faith in Baba is genuine, they would not be indulging in the manipulations they do in relation to other people being fully aware that Baba many times forbade people/reprimanded devotees for committing such acts to satisfy their smallest of interest. We have to watch whether we are acting truthfully, howsoever difficult, according to the advise of Baba. Faith reflects in everyday reality. It is not a mental luxury or a philosophical dream. Therefore, let us seriously think about this strength of our faith in Baba.
